What Is Viagra (Sildenafil)?

Viagra is the brand name for sildenafil, a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). 

Sildenafil belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase inhibitors, which work by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual activity, resulting in an erection.
However, Viagra will not work without sexual stimulation.
Manufactured by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Viagra was originally conceived as a treatment for hypertension and cardiovascular disease, until researchers found it produced erections.
In 1998, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it as the first pill to treat impotence (now known as erectile dysfunction), and in 2005 it approved sildenafil for the treatment of PAH.
Viagra has been prescribed "off-label" to treat Raynaud's disease, in which the fingers and toes become cold and numb, and, in combination with doxorubicin, to treat prostate cancer.
Sildenafil, under the brand name Revatio, is also prescribed to men and women with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) to improve their ability to exercise and decrease shortness of breath.

Viagra Warnings

Don't take Viagra if you're taking nitrate drugs for chest pain or heart problems. This mix can cause a sudden and serious drop in blood pressure, making you feel dizzy and faint, and possibly bring on a heart attack or stroke.
(Be aware that some recreational drugs, such as amyl nitrate or "poppers," also contain nitrate.)
Alpha blockers such as Hytrin (terazosin) and Flomax (tamsulosin HCI) combined with Viagra can also result in a drop in blood pressure.
Make sure you're healthy enough to have sex before taking Viagra - talk to your doctor about any heart disease or heart rhythm problems, as sex puts extra strain on the heart.

Viagra for Women

The FDA has not approved Viagra as a treatment for sexual dysfunction in women, although an increasing number of studies have found that it could boost libido and sexual arousal in some women.

Pregnancy and Viagra
While the FDA has not approved Viagra for sexual dysfunction or low libido in women, women taking Revatio, which has the same active ingredient as Viagra, for PAH, should tell their doctor if they are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
Viagra is in FDA Pregnancy Category B, meaning it's not expected to harm a fetus, but no adequate studies have been carried out in pregnant women to prove it.
It's not known if sildenafil is excreted in breast milk. Ask your doctor if it's safe to breastfeed while taking Viagra.

ٹانگ پر ٹانگ رکھ یا چڑھا کر بیٹھنا بہت ہی زیادہ عام عادت ہے اور اکثر بیٹھنے کے دوران اس پر توجہ بھی نہیں دیتے۔ہوسکتا ہے کہ ایسے بیٹھنا آپ کو آرام دہ لگتا ہو یعنی ایک گھٹنا دوسرے گھٹنے کے اوپر مگر یہ عادت آپ کے اندازوں سے بھی زیادہ صحت کے لیے تباہ کن ہے۔یہ دعویٰ ایک طبی تحقیق میں سامنے آیا۔تحقیق میں بتایا گیا کہ اس طرح بیٹھنا درحقیقت بلڈ پریشر کو بڑھانے کا باعث بنتا ہے
جی ہاں بلڈ پریشر، جس کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ ٹانگ کے اوپر ٹانگ رکھنے ے ٹانگوں

Experts warn people not to over-eat during Eid Al Fitr

As many people prepare to end their fasts for the final day, experts warn they must avoid the urge to over-eat. They say residents' health depends on them making the right decisions.

Even those able to fast healthily through Ramadan should allow their bodies time to adjust, said Dr Mazen Askheta, a consultant in diabetes and internal medicine at Tawam Hospital, Al Ain.
"What we usually recommend for people who haven't been eating properly throughout the month of Ramadan is really to continue to apply this diet of four to five small meals every day, rather than two or three large meals," Dr Askheta said.
People should also be careful about the type of foods they reintroduce into their diets, he said.
"Basically, we give the same advice [as for Ramadan], which is for people to try to avoid large, heavy meals with lots of desserts," Dr Askheta said. "These meals could cause a shock to their system."
He said this type of shock could disrupt hormone levels.
Some people will also notice a weight gain after Ramadan but this could be a sign of the body adjusting, said Dr Abdulla Hamed Kazim, a resident in internal medicine at Mafraq Hospital.
However, if people eat too much they can find themselves with unpleasant side effects, such as gastro-oesophageal reflux, when stomach acid rises into the oesophagus.
"Overeating does sometimes cause conditions like this when people tend to eat a lot and don't give a chance for the stomach to digest," Dr Kazim said.
"They usually have large meals and that causes a lot of problems."
A healthy attitude is important during the holiday, said Dr Arwa Al Modwahi, a senior officer for the school and family health section at the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi.
"We need attitude adjustment for the way we eat and move during Eid," Dr Al Modwahi said.
People should also realise that they need to adopt a healthy diet all year, not just during Ramadan, the doctor said.
"It is important to concentrate on quality of food as much as quantity, consuming from all food groups, and to remain physically active," Dr Al Modwahi said.
Although not normally one to overindulge, Basand Mohamed, 25, from Canada, finds it tough to keep from eating more than her stomach can handle during Eid.
"I don't find it too hard [to eat healthily during Ramadan], although sometimes I put effort into eating the right things and not always munching on sweets," Ms Mohamed said.
"But in all honesty I do over-eat when I'm at a dinner party. People might tell you to eat more and I don't really know how to say no. I also eat more when I'm at an open buffet."
Whether or not people over-eat during Eid celebrations depends a lot on where they break their fast, said Mehdi Popotte, a trader who lives in Abu Dhabi.
"I break [my fast] with a couple of friends at home," said Mr Popotte, 26. "We buy the groceries so we are able to regulate the quality and quantity of food."
In a friendly, relaxed environment such as this they do not feel rushed and will take their time to enjoy their evening meal, he said.
But when attending an iftar that has been prepared on a much grander scale, the balance can shift.
"What I've noticed - and it's the reason I don't want to go to any iftars at hotels - is the buffet is a big factor for overeating because visually it gives you more appetite than you actually have," Mr Popotte said.
"You tend to want to taste everything and you eat a lot of food and you end up full, but without having properly enjoyed the breaking of the fast."
Cultural norms also play a role in eating habits over Eid, said Dr Askheta.
"I think a lot of it has to do with our culture," he said. "There are a lot of invitations to events and a lot of people tend to see more of their family and friends, where the pressure is more on them to slack off and try to be a little bit more indulgent.
"They don't want to be bad. It's the availability of the bad stuff, the people around them and the culture. It might be very difficult for them to resist all of that."

Heatstroke is predictable and preventable. Take these steps to prevent heatstroke during hot weather:

  • Wear loose fitting, lightweight clothing. Wearing excess clothing or clothing that fits tightly won't allow your body to cool properly.
  • Protect against sunburn. Sunburn affects your body's ability to cool itself, so protect yourself outdoors with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Apply sunscreen generously, and reapply every two hours — or more often if you're swimming or sweating.
  • Drink plenty of fluids. Staying hydrated will help your body sweat and maintain a normal body temperature.
  • Take extra precautions with certain medications. Be on the lookout for heat-related problems if you take medications that can affect your body's ability to stay hydrated and dissipate heat.
  • Never leave anyone in a parked car. This is a common cause of heat-related deaths in children. When parked in the sun, the temperature in your car can rise 20 degrees F (more than 6.7 C) in 10 minutes.
    It's not safe to leave a person in a parked car in warm or hot weather, even if the windows are cracked or the car is in shade. When your car is parked, keep it locked to prevent a child from getting inside.
  • Take it easy during the hottest parts of the day. If you can't avoid strenuous activity in hot weather, drink fluids and rest frequently in a cool spot. Try to schedule exercise or physical labor for cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or evening.
  • Get acclimated. Limit time spent working or exercising in heat until you're conditioned to it. People who are not used to hot weather are especially susceptible to heat-related illness. It can take several weeks for your body to adjust to hot weather.
  • Be cautious if you're at increased risk. If you take medications or have a condition that increases your risk of heat-related problems, avoid the heat and act quickly if you notice symptoms of overheating. If you participate in a strenuous sporting event or activity in hot weather, make sure there are medical services available in case of a heat emergency.

برطانیہ کی سوانسی یونیورسٹی کے پروفیسر فل ریڈ کی جانب سے کی گئی تحقیق میں 18 سے 33 برس کے 144 افراد کو شامل کیا گیا اور نتائج میں یہ بات سامنے آئی کہ جب انٹرنیٹ بند ہوا تو ان میں سے زیادہ تر افراد کی دل کی دھڑکنیں تیز ہوگئیں اور بلڈ پریشر میں بھی اضافہ ہوا جبکہ ان میں مایوسی بھی بڑھی۔
نتائج سے یہ بات بھی سامنے آئی کہ جب تک انٹرنیٹ کام کرتا رہا، تحقیق میں شریک افراد کے دل کی دھڑکنیں معمول کے مطابق چلتی رہیں۔ تاہم جیسے ہی انہیں آف لائن کیا گیا ان میں سے بعض کی دھڑکنوں اور بلڈ پریشر میں پہلے کی نسبت 4 فیصد تک اضافہ ہوگیا؛ جب کہ بعض کا بلڈ پریشر اس سے بھی زیادہ ریکارڈ کیا گیا۔ تحقیق میں شامل افراد کے نفسیاتی ہیجان میں اضافہ بھی دیکھا گیا۔
ماہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ اگرچہ انٹرنیٹ سے خطرناک حد تک لگاؤ سے صحت پر پڑنے والے اثرات جان لیوا نہیں ہیں تاہم ان سے وقتی طور پر گھبراہٹ، پریشانی اور اضطرابی کیفیت ضرور پیدا ہوجاتی ہے جو جھگڑے اور غلط فیصلوں کا سبب بن سکتی ہے۔
